This week is certainly it. To accommodate the irregular extras, I'm going to skip Monday at the Plough. Here's what's up in addition to the regular Plough Monday, in case you're interested in checking them out:
TUESDAY
Tuesday marks the triumphant re-re-launch of
miss_emelia's South Bay Ceili. I'm going to cut 'n' paste Ammy's announcement email here, rather than regurgitate the details.
So join us next Tuesday at Rosie McCann's Irish Pub in Santana Row.
Santana Row is a new residential/commercial development off Winchester
and Stevens Creek near the junction of 280 and 880 (I think it's
technically Santa Clara). There's scads of free parking in the
garages, and (hold on to your shorts) they have a WOOD FLOOR!!!! And
they want us. Kooky, eh?
So starting this Tuesday, February 8th, let's show them what the south
bay dancers have to offer.
Good news is that food is within price range. James personally
recommends the Irish Nachos for $7.95. I tried the fish and chips last
night, which were scrumptuous, and perfect for two at $11.95. On the
other hand, they have servings for "Little Lepruchauns" that are about
half sized and half priced. They also have burgers (including a garden
burger), and other specialites (bangers and mash, pork loin, and
shepherd's pie all stood out), and sodas include free refills. Plus,
there's real beer - Guiness on tap!
Okay, so it's not Mountain View or Palo Alto. Sorry gang. I tried. I
did check out the soon to be Buddha Lounge (and all the other stuff
going in on Castro). While it's nice, it's probably a little too nice,
and they're not opening until February 26th. Espresso Garden was also
good, but also didn't fit the peninsula area, so I didn't want to
force the owners of this family run business to be open for another
night when I couldn't guarantee that folks would commute. And Mike,
the manager at Rosie's said, "Okay, let's give it a go. Can you be
here next Tuesday?" Matt said, "Yes." So here we are!
Just to get this straight - we'll be doing Irish dancing, in an Irish
pub, with a wood floor. It's bloody brilliant I tell you!
WEDNESDAY
All month long that fabulous Celtic rock band Avalon Rising (http://www.flowinglass.com/avalon/) is playing at the King's Head Pub in Campbell. You can find the details on their website. The last time they played there we brought out a large dancing crowd and the band was super-duper impressed. They loved it so much they've begged us to come out this Wednesday so they can videotape us. When one of the best Celtic rock bands around begs, well, ya just gotta go dance, right?
