My mother's release
Jun. 20th, 2005 10:51 pmMom was quietly torn up by her brother's recent passing. I haven't seen her that hurt since the divorce. It struck her very, very deeply.
She said something on the phone to me a few hours ago that really let me know that everything is OK now. You see, although we just lost a prominent member of the family, we've just learned today that we'll have a new one joining us soon. Erin and Eric, my sister-in-law and my brother, are expecting their first child. I'll be an uncle in March!
Mom said "It's sad that your Uncle John will never have known that he was to be a grand-uncle. But it just goes to show you that life goes on. People die, and people are born." Mom was well and truly happy.
Any current and former girlfriends of mine can all breathe a sigh of relief, at least for a little while. Something my Mom has wanted for so long has finally clicked into place in her soul. I expect this means her nagging me to get married and start reproducing will slack off, at least for a month or two. :-)
And the happy couple? They're ecstatic, of course. And clearly a bit nervous. By complete coincidence I get to see them in a couple of weeks while we all bum around DC for a few days. I can't wait!
