My kingdom for some hiking boots!
Jun. 27th, 2004 05:53 pmI wear hiking boots 3/4 of the time. I like 'em. I find them comfortable. And sometimes I even go hiking. So it's important to me to have a good pair. Like the pair of 4-year-old Adidas I have now, which are the single best damn pair of hiking boots I've ever owned. Unfortunately their linings are going out, so it's time for a new pair. I went to (in this order):
REI
SportMart (Mountain View)
SportMart (Sunnyvale)
Big 5 Sporting Goods
Any Mountain (Cupertino, a store which apparently totally died recently)
North Face
Foot Locker
Shoe Pavillion
Several of these stores have beautiful hiking boots that I would be proud to wear. That is, if I could try on a pair. Because I'm a men's size 7, and I guess sometime in the last year or two the Secret Council of Hiking Boot Manufacturers and Retailers decided that they weren't going to sell men's size 7 in any retail establishments anymore.
And no, before you ask, women's sizes don't work for me -- they tend to be to narrow.
Now what the heck am I supposed to do? I don't want to order shoes online. Shoes are one of those things that you have to put on and walk around in a bit. This is especially important for hiking boots. But I can't do that, because No. One. Will. Sell. Me. A. Pair. My. Freakin'. Size!!
