I posted recently that I'd had a good day 'cause I'd applied to a job this month. As a video editor and post-production guy, there's precious few job opportunities in my field. I've been finding I've been applying to about one job per month.

A banner month for me is any month in which I apply for more than one job. Today, [livejournal.com profile] laurelt forwarded to me another good job, editing videogame footage. I've done it before, and it's one of my favorite types of projects. Have you ever been interested in playing a videogame, and gone to the game's website to downloaded a promotional video showing some of the gameplay and cutscenes? That's what this job is. I've done a number of those, and they are hecka fun to work on. I'm good at it too, because I'm not only an experienced editor but an avid videogame player. This job is only 20 hours a week, but it's probably a ton of fun, and the pay is decent.

So I guess I'll cross my fingers again...

So I just described a banner month, right? I've never had it so good then, because I just came across this posting on Craigslist for a Post-production supervisor position at PDI. You know, Pacific Data Images? One of the five greatest computer animation companies in the world, right up there with Pixar? They made this little movie called... what was it... oh yes -- Shrek!!

I'm fairly well qualified for the position (I'm a little light on the management experience, but I can fake it), it's in Redwood City (blessedly close by), and it's a supervisory/managerial position which is something I really want to do. I'm 34 years old -- I don't want to push the buttons any more, I want to tell my minions to push the buttons!

Gadz, and mad props to Craigslist. I get way more job leads from there than anywhere else. I've certainly never, ever had a month where I've applied for 3 jobs in 2 weeks. Now if only one of these companies I sent my resume to would actually call me.
