Hello from my iPhone!
Jun. 30th, 2007 10:38 amYes, I'm posting from my iPhone. Technolust got the better of me.
There was a bit of a saga getting it. Karen and I first set our sites on the local AT&T store, where the line wasn't that long. Unfortunately all of AT&T's computers were crushed by the massive amounts of sales they were doing, so they were only manging about 10 sales per hour. We stayed there for 2 hours before they finally admitted they didn't have enough stock for us (we were about 10 people back from the cutoff), but they announced that they were perfectly happy to take our money and ship us a phone in 3 days. :-(
So we went to the Apple store in downtown Palo Alto (sometimes refered to as "Steve Jobs' store" since he lives near it). The guy behind us in line had an identical experience to ours at an AT&T store in San Jose, which leads me to believe that was a planned strategy by AT&T -- bastards!
In stark contrast to our previous experience, the Apple store was a dream. We got through the line in less than 20 minutes, and both got what we wanted. They still had tons of stock on hand, and hyperefficient clerks selling them at lightspeed. I got a 4gig model. Why? Because there's a good chance I'll upgrade when the next generation comes out. Even for a first gen machine, this thing rocks. I wanted a phone that would give me a high-quality web surfing experience, and I got that. I am pleased.
Total time it took me to type this = 15 minutes. Not bad for my first day!
