Long time no update
Jun. 2nd, 2007 03:00 pmI know I've been remiss, mostly just posting quiz results for a while. Let's see here...
One of the teams I'm on at work was rewarded with a 24 hour stay in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. It'd been probably 15 years since I'd been to Vegas, and none of the big hotel/casinos that are there now were there the last time I'd visited. It's one thing to see things like the Belagio, Paris, New York New York, Treasure Island, and the rest on television and in movies, but quite another thing to actually be there. My, those are big and glitzy!
I think there are three kinds of people in the world: those who love Vegas, those who hate Vegas, and those who haven't been there yet to know which of the other two camps they're in. I knew the first time I visited that I'm in the Vegas-hater camp, and that opinion wasn't swayed by my recent visit. Yes, the place is better. But ultimately it's the most fake, kitchy place on the planet, and although it can be briefly amusing I wouldn't want to spend significant time there. So much so that even though
capricious_k came down for the weekend, I elected to depart just as she arrived.
That being said, I did have a good time, perhaps because it was so brief. Unfortunately our schedule precluded us from seeing any shows other than Zoomanity, but frankly I didn't want to see Cirque's sexiest show with co-workers. I also don't enjoy gambling, so that was out. I elected to spend the night wandering up and down the strip, eventually landing at a club in Treasure Island where several of my co-workers joined us and we danced for hours and hours and hours. After a few hours of sleep, a bunch of us headed to the Star Trek Experience which was loads of fun; sadly I only had time to do the Klingon attack part of the ride, and had to run to the airport while everyone else got assimilated by the Borg.
In other news, I had a thoroughly fabulous time at Friday Night Waltz last night. The lesson was an entirely new choreography for the Congress of Vienna by my dear old friend Anne Remsen, who also DJ'd for the evening. Several people that I hadn't seen in a long time showed up for the evening, and it's always lovely to get a chance to dance with folks you haven't seen in a while. Made one new acquaintance, who very much instilled a feeling in me of "Why haven't we met before? We know tons of people in common, and oh my you back lead extremely well!" We stayed all the way through the middle of the last set, but frankly
capricious_k and I had danced so much that night that we could barely walk. Instead we made our way home and collapsed into a night of deeply satisfying heavy sleep. Dancing good!
