Music is beautiful: Tower --> Rasputin's
Mar. 24th, 2007 11:20 amEver since Tower Records stores began to close I've been a bit sad. I'm not sure how many hours I've spent at the local Tower on San Antonio Blvd, and I've spent plenty of money there on music, books, and movies. I remember riding my bike there as a kid, I remember about 12 different configurations of their books section, and I remember purchasing stuff from them as recently as last summer. So probably 30ish years spent visiting that store, and it's all gone now.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I drove past the old storefront the other day to discover it's being transformed into a Rasputin's Music. In fact, Rasputin's can't get in there fast enough. They're still renovating, half their inventory hasn't arrived, there's no decorations at all, their stock is a barely organized jumble, there's only one working cash register, and the employees are clearly working at a fevered pitch with smiles on their faces -- but they're definitely open for business. They told me they hope to have the place 100% in a month or so. The energy was good and I'll definitely be checking back there later, and I wish them every success.
