About the recent LJ outage
May. 4th, 2006 11:37 amWant to know what happened to LiveJournal the other day during that outage?
Apparently Six Apart (LJ's parent company) was collateral damage in a denial of service attack instigated by a Russian hacker against an Israeli anti-spam organization. According to the article, the anti-spam organization had launched a DoS-style attack on the hacker, and the hacker was retaliating. How it spilled over to Six Apart isn't entirely clear, but it seems the Israelis may have redirected the attack to a blog hosted by Six Apart.
