"Ladies and gentlemen, I want to announce tonight that this concert is going to be fucking amazing!" the lead singer cried out.
And so it was. I got to see Coldplay last night. The tickets were $70 for the nosebleed seats, and it was worth every penny.
I actually should probably thank
swinger_kitten who had a habit of occasionally mentioning Coldplay in her blog. I'm not nearly as cool as she is -- I never went to see them at the Filmore or anything -- but she made me aware of the name. That let me connect the name to the music I was hearing more and more on the radio... Finally I picked up the albums (for $10 each, thank you Virgin Megastore!) and was blown away. I'm especially impressed by the density of hits these guys have; three major albums, and half the songs have had heavy radio rotation.
So there I was with
capricious_k,
fresne, and their friend up near the rafters of the Oakland Coliseum, wondering if this was going to be worth $70... and then they started playing. It was pure magic from that point out. These guys sound just as good live as they do on the records. Simply enchanting.
(Although, truth be told, I never actually liked "Yellow.")
