St. Stevie's no more
Jul. 21st, 2004 08:32 amI discovered I wasn't able to make it to the SSG ceili last night in the late afternoon, when my Google recruiter piled a bunch of homework on me. Critical for me getting hired, yes? So no ceili. I dutifully informed
miss_emelia.
Apparently, no one else made it, either. Because, as Ammy found out a few hours later, the owners of St. Steven's Green made a snap decision last Sunday night to close the pub. Dez, their overworked manager (who's always been a great guy, btw, so we're not mad at him) simply didn't have time to call us in the rush to shut the venue down.
capricious_k had a bunch of Google work to do too, so we stayed in on our respective laptops. Meanwhile, the large crowd of dancers and the GINORMOUS BAND that showed up had a guerrilla ceili on the streets of downtown Los Altos as a kind of wake for St. Stevie's. Alas that we couldn't be there, it sounded like a blast.
So the Tuesday night ceili is on hold until Ammy can find us a new venue. In the meantime, I'd like to thank all the folks who took my classes -- I learned a ton from you, and I hope you learned some stuff from me. And great big thanks and hugs to
mertuil and
miss_emelia, my co-ceili-conspirators, for putting the whole shindig together.
We hope to be back soon, folks. Stay tuned.
