Taking a break, thinking of dancing
Feb. 6th, 2004 11:29 amWell I'm 420 pages in to my 1500 or so pages of study for my interview. Time for a brief break.
torvo, my room mate, has been listening a lot to Hans Zimmer's Gladiator soundtrack albums for the last couple of days. He loaned me a copy of "Gladiator: More Music From the Motion Picture." I was just reading the liner notes and came across something that floored me.
The music that plays during the opening battle scene of the movie? The piece that's based so heavily on Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War?" It's a waltz. It's a waltz. On this album, it's called "The Gladiator Waltz."
And according to Mr. Zimmer in the liner notes, it's not just any waltz, it's a Viennese waltz! Hey dancing friends, we must dance to this at some party or FNW! It'd be just as cool as dancing to the now infamous Conan waltz.
Speaking of FNW, I am planning on attending that event tonight -- Salty Dog Rag baby, not to be missed!! I'm also considering letting some friends of mine talk me in to going to PEERS tomorrow.
